The Mayfield Care Home in Whitby welcomed its first residents last week. Geoff and Brenda Thorpe, of Whitby, moved in and celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on Saturday. The couple, who had recently been separated due to Geoff’s health, were very much hoping to be reunited in time for the special occasion.

Adam Kane, General Manager of The Mayfield said, “It was a race against time, but everything fell into place, and we were able to welcome Geoff and Brenda so they could be together for their anniversary.”

The couple celebrated the occasion with their three children who came to The Mayfield to spend time with their parents and enjoy a special lunch. They requested roast pork which was served with honey roasted parsnips, carrots, broccoli, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. The meal was freshly prepared by The Mayfield’s Head Chef using locally sourced ingredients. The main course was followed by a delicious Battenburg cake, also requested by Geoff, and baked by their son Christopher.

Geoff and Brenda were over the moon to be together, and it was a happy day for all the family who chatted away and enjoyed Prosecco to drink.

Geoff used to be a mining engineer and Brenda a teacher, and they settled permanently in Whitby 30 years ago having spent many happy holidays there. Adam Kane said, “it is an honour to have welcomed our first residents to The Mayfield Care Home. We are very much enjoying getting to know them and looking after them.”
